It is one of the most brilliant and intensely colored gemstones on planet earth today. Its known for its deeply purple hues and vivid violets.

Without doubt the darker and more intense shade of purple , the more expensive the stone is. Even then the most expensive amethyst is still cheaper than say a ruby or an emerald.

Is Amethyst Expensive ?

Up until the end of the 18th century amethyst was as valuable as a diamond, ruby or emerald , but that was until the discovery of deposits in Brazil.

Nowadays , generally speaking, an amethyst stone is pretty inexpensive and very affordable considering the beauty and radiance it delivers.

Valuable and quality amethysts generally have red flashed when you rotate the stone. Look out for depth of color , normally a deep purple color and flash red when rotated.

Amethyst Jewelry Shopping . Be Careful !

Now this is not meant to scare you or deprive some poor honest jeweler of a sale. Nowadays the chemical and physical properties of a synthetic amethyst is so similar to that of a natural amethyst that its very difficult to tell the difference.

Your best bet is to stay with a reputable and established jeweler. Better still get a certificate where you have the picture of your jewelry along with a written receipt saying that the stone is natural and not synthetic.

Happy Shopping!
